Even without ears, Winston is a charmer at Kirkland’s MEOW Cat Rescue shelter. This kind and gentle boy loves to be petted and shows his appreciation by licking your face and nibbling on your ears.

“He is so tender, loving and happy,” said Marilyn Hendrickson, director of the shelter. “He is sweetest cat in the world. I have several cats, so I can’t keep him but if there is any way I could I would.”

But despite his friendly nature, Winston has had a difficult life. Marilyn discovered the white cat back in November when temperatures outside had dipped into the 20s. Sitting on the steps of an abandoned house where his owners had left him, Marilyn noticed his bright white fur, his completely black ears and she knew something was wrong. Over the next few days Marilyn brought over food and bedding and befriended the cat. Eventually, he let her put him in a cat carrier and Marilyn rushed him to a vet.

Winston had been forced to live outside for the past five years, and sun exposure on his light skin caused skin cancer on both ears. He had to have both ears entirely removed, but Winston is cancer-free today.

Now, Winston is ready to find a new home. The 11-year-old still has perfect hearing and will not require any additional care for his ears. He is “awesome, awesome, awesome  with kids,” Marilyn said, and great with other cats as well.

The only requirement for adopting Winston is that he be kept indoors for the remainder of his life because his light coloring leaves him susceptible to sunburn.

“He is very content being inside and loves watching the squirrel and bird activity from the safety of the indoors,” Marilyn says. “He is currently in charge of backyard surveillance in his foster home.”
